The router and the modem needs to be restarted every other day
If I don't pay attention at home entropy seem to take over the router and modem quite frequently. I am needing to restart the router and modem quite frequently. That is when I realize it. Not sure how many times I don't even notice.
otherwise I am getting speed tests of 3mbps. when I restart the router I get 20mbps. These are relatively new and expensive router and modems from motorola and linksys.

Someone from Comcast case on saturday and as suspected
Signal is low
Lot of noise
Cable that runs into the house may be slightly damaged
Backfeed from the lines inside the house seem to cause issues

Resolution
Rep said he could see that it has low signal before even coming to the house. Not sure how Comcast telphone support didnt see this on the five previous calls.
comcast is going to thread a new cable to the house from the street. I don't have to be at home for this. They are also going to boost the signal whatever that means on street!
What a racket!!
They could have saved me $200.00 and a week of of my personal time!

The newer routes don't need a CD to set them up
Look for CDLess install
once you plug the router in goto 192.168.1.1
They probably come with preconfigured SSID and password
You may want to write these down as they seem to be specific each item you buy in the store different.
if you have a smart phone take a picture of the material.
