1964 High school, Roosevelt High, washington DC, Valedictorian
1968 MIT, Bachelors Degree in Theoretical Physics, Boston
She wrote her thesis on Solid State Physics
1973 MIT, PhD in theoretical physics, Boston
   Elementary Particle Theory
   She worked under James Young

First African-American woman to earn a doctorate degree from MIT. Her research was directed by James Young.

She worked at the renowned theoretical physics lab Fermin lab in Illionoi in the 70s. She worked on a technology called hadrons

She worked at CERN, Switzerland in 1974

In 1995, President Clinton appointed Jackson to serve as Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), becoming the first woman and first African American to hold that position

For her research she was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the American Physical Society. She is a member of a number of other professional organizations. Dr. Jackson holds 10 honorary doctoral degrees.

On July 1, 1999, Jackson became the 18th president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the position she presently holds

She is one of the first two African-American women to receive a doctorate in physics in the U.S. She is the first African-American to become a Commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. She is both the first woman and the first African-American to serve as the Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and now the first African-American woman to lead a national research university.

Dr. Jackson was inducted into The National Woman?s Hall of Fame in 1998 for her significant and profound contributions as a distinguished scientist and advocate for education, science, and public policy.

Famous physicists

William Jefferson Clinton (born William Jefferson Blythe III[1] on August 19, 1946) was the forty-second President of the United States, serving from 1993 to 2001

She first developed an interest in science and mathematics during her childhood and conducted experiments and studies, such as those on the eating habits of honeybees

She is the first African American to earn a doctorate from the best Science school in the world called MIT

She has also helped make possible Caller ID and Call Waiting.

Her inventions include developments in the portable fax, touch tone telephone, solar cell, and the fiber optic cables used to provide clarity in overseas telephone calls.

She is now the president of the oldest technological university in the United States called RPI in upstate New York.

Describing her as ?a national treasure,? the National Science Board selected Dr. Jackson as its 2007 recipient of the prestigious Vannevar Bush Award for ?a lifetime of achievements in scientific research, education, and senior statesman-like contributions to public policy.?
