This is not about what is work, or why I should work, but about how should I work. The practice of work. To be a bit flippant a sort of Karma Yoga.

What elevates work? is it a mood? is it an emotion? is it space? is it time? is it motivation? is it commitment? is it need? is it joy? is it responsibility? is it meaning?

So, I intend to gather a series of ruminations on how to practice work

A series of ruminations on this subject

Advice from Atari Chief

1. Treat employees like adults.

2. Focus on outcomes not process.

3. Hire people for intensity not necessarily credentials. Some of the best engineers I've had were self-trained. A couple of them never completed high school let alone college.

4. I think that the main thing to do is get creative, happy people. If your people aren't happy, then they aren't very good. A properly managed company can keep people happy. I always tried to focus on that. "Happy" has nothing to do with how much or how little people work. It has to do with respect and clear tasking, and being involved in projects that they can be proud of.
