20-Nov-07

It was the day before Thanksgiving. I had to beg and beg for my Dad to make his special Cool-whi & Pound-cake desert. He told me he would think about it. I asked him an hour later if he had thought about it. He said he did and he would make it. I thanked him and asked him to make sure there would be enough for everyone.

I then went and helped Mom set up the table. I told her I wanted to help with Thanksgiving table. She agreed and we soon finished.

Then I went over Dad to help with the desert. I helped mix the cool-whip. He warned me not to dip my finger and taste the desert. It did taste very good though when I tried anyhow. My dad then put the desert in a bowl and put the bowl in the fridge. We promised Dad, me and my little bother of a brother, wouldn't eat it before morning.

It wast late in the night by then. Dad wanted to go to sleep. I wondered if my school would like the desert. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I would wait until the next morning. Dad woke up. It was time to have a feast. It was soon the hour of the desert. All the desert was gone in 10 minutes.

I told my Dad he would have to make another one for School.

And thats, folks, is the end.

what are six traits of writing

More documents like this are at:  Resources

19-Nov-07

1. Ideas

The collective list of distinct ideas or questions your writing will set out to explain or answer.

2. Organization

How you have organized your story. The table of contents and chapters are some ways of organizing the story or writing. "flashbacks" in films is another way of organizing an idea.

3. The voice

The voice is the way a story is being told: is it being told from the writers perspective, or is it told from the perspective of one of the characters or is it told as a "dialogue" and interaction between the characters.

Another way voice is being explained is how a writers "personality" or way of writing and his/her beliefs show up in the writing indirectly through style.

4. word choice

How smartly, beautifully, plainly, or however which suits the author the words are employed to convey meaning.

There are certain writers where this is taken to the utmost art form such as the plays of "Shakespear" a truly remarkable achievement.

5. Sentence fluency

This is an extension of how words are crafted into sentences.

6. Conventions

It is about rules and punctuation and grammar.

For example a "haiku" has an exact format and convention and so does a "Sonnet"

This has a big impact on early wars and also in saving lives as danger can be communicated that much faster for example of an approaching hurricane.

Leonardo da Vinci's studies, drawings, and never-finished inventions involving flight were revolutionary in design to say the least. It is debated whether da Vinci successfully flew using any of his machines, but even if they never left the ground in his time; modern day parachutes and helicopters are very similar to Leonardo's designs from hundreds of years ago. This is interesting because most of his work was not uncovered until the 19th century, after all the machines were reinvented. Leonardo's study of flight started with flapping-wing mechanisms, but after he discovered the futility of human powered and coordinated flight, he turned his eyes to the birds. He studied, watched, and dissected birds and bats, trying to discover what enables them to fly. After his writings on birds his research shifted to glider based flight, rather than further pursuing human powered wings, or the aerial screw (the ancestor of the helicopter).

Leonardo Da Vince (1452 to 1519) drew lots of designs for flying machines.
