Relaxation: Historical
Reading, Painting, and Knitting are all considered relaxation and some of which are practiced as such for thousands of years. Earliest cave paintings in Spain and France goes back to 30,000 years by Modern humans who replaced their previous genetic offshoot Neandarthals.
Sumarians used clay tablets around 4,000BC to write and by extension to paint. Egyptians used sheets of papyrus around 5000 BC to record symbols and primitive writing. Modern paper making comes out of china around 104 AD and reaches Europe only in the 12 the century. The painting of Leonardo Mona Lisa that people visit often for appreciation is a by product of this paper reaching Europe.
The first widely used personal computer for primitive painting or artistic expression is Apple's Lisa inroduced in 1984. Since then we now have Apples iPad in 2010 that is 'again' like an ultra modern writing tablet that is very capable of artistic expression such as painting close enough to paper.

Entertainment: Historical
Entertainment seem to be essential in the evolution of life even before the appearance of humans around 6.5 million years ago. Birds does it, bees does it and monkeys of course. The animal species seem to attempt acts of entertainment for the benefit of others of their species by song, dance. How else one would explain Monkey Business.
The ancient Greek theatre dates back to 550 BC combining the human creativity of motion, voice, and visuals. The first voice reproduction is througha phonograph invented by Edison in 1887. The first silent movie around 1877. The first popular talking movie The Jazz Singer was released in 1927.
One of the well recognized early computer was ENIAC built between 1943 and 1946 by Eckert and Mauchlin at University of Pennsylvania and weighed 50 tons. The graphics work stations capable of showing motion video have started coming around 1970 and the first graphics based personal computer Lisa showed up in 1984.
First widely available computers that showed movies were made available around 1990.
