How to create a note in AKC
This document will walk you through step by step for creating a note in AKC. You can create this note for private viewing or for public viewing.
Find the URL for AKC (http://www.activeintellect.com/akc)
The first step is to find the home page for AKC. This is located at http://www.activeintellect.com/akc. Type this address into your web browser to access the site. In AKC you can see the content or material published by other Authors. If you have permissions you can create this content yourself and become an author.
Get a userid and password (you can use demo/demo)
You can obtain a userid and password by emailing the administrator of the web site at satya at activeintellect.com. Note that I have scrambled the email to protect it from junk mailers. Once you receive an account userid and password you can start creating your own ideas and material in AKC.
For trial purposes there is a well known userid and password created so that everyone can try it out before actually getting their own account. The userid is "demo". The password is "demo" as well. So in the interim you can use this userid and password to login to akc.
Understand AKC public/private modes
AKC as already suggested has two modes in it. Public and private. The public mode of AKC allows any body on the internet to view the content. Only in the private mode you will be able to create content. To enter the private mode you have to login.
Public read mode
Public mode is the read mode. This is where people read the content created by other people. In this mode you won't be able to create any content. By default when you go AKCs website you are in this mode. On the home page you can choose the "Visit Public Library" to enter this mode.
Private authoring mode
For creating any content you have to login. when you login, AKC allows you to write notes and remember URLs (like a favorite), and file them. On the home page you can click on "Author/Manage content" to enter the private mode. The system will prompt your for a user id and password when you do this.
Access the authoring menu
On the home page you can click on "Author/Manage content" to enter the private mode. The system will prompt your for a user id and password when you do this. If the password is valid it will be taken to the "authoring menu". From here you can
Access your private folders for any updates Create a new note Remember a URL like a favorite Change your setting
Go to create a note
Choose to go to creating the note. You will be taken to a screen where you can enter the following
Note Name description Text
Note Name is a short name that you can give to your note. The description field allows you to write a few lines about the item that you are going to create. You can enter the usual html tags in this field. Just try not to use any header tags or div tags in this field. The "text" field is where you enter the complete content of your text. In this field you can enter any html tags that can go into a body of an html document. You can use heading tags and div tags as well.
Create the note
Once you enter the text click on the "Create" button to create the note in the system. The description and text fields are optional. This is so that you can quickly create a note and comeback later and fill in the details. The create button will create the note in the database and take you to a screen where you will be allowed to file it.
By default the note is filed in a folder called "default" folder. This folder is a private folder. So no one is able to see this item at. You can also edit the item if you want to at this stage by clicking on the edit link against that item.
Create a new folder if you have to
The next step is to file the item in a public folder so that everyone can see it. It is possible that there are no suitable folder available to file this item in. You can create a new folder on this screen if you have to. Just type in a new folder name in the entry box "New Folder Name" and click on the "Create a new folder". This will create a new folder with that name and bring you to the same screen. Now you can see the new folder as one of the items. If you don't see your folder you can hit the refresh button.
File the note in the folder of your choice
Now that we have the folder we want, we can file away the item in this new folder. To do this clic the check box next to the item. This will select the item. Then in the drop down "Folder List" choose the folder name that you want to file the item in. After doing those two steps click on the "Move" button. This will move the item to this new folder and you won't see it in the default folder any more.
If you want you can click on the name of your new folder to see its contents. And you should see your item filed in there.
Make the folder public if you have to
At this time the folder you have created may still be marked as "private" as that is the default setting when a folder is created. This status of the folder if it is public or private is indicated next to the folder. If you click on this folder status it will be flipped. For example, if it is private and you click on it, it will become public and vice versa. To make your item visible you have to make your folder where it is sitting in public.
Test your item by visiting the item through the public interface
To do this go to the home page again. From the home page go to the public library. In the public library pick your users "Blogs" link. The item you had just entered should be visible as the top item in the list. You can navigate to this item via the public library of the user as well.
